As can be seen, the penniless people accounted for 11% of the Australian population, equivalent to 1,837,000 people and the highest poverty rate belonged to the group of sole parent.
The percentage of destitute people who came from the sole parent family type, was 21%, equal to 232,000 people. The group of single with no children families recorded 19% of its families living in poverty-stricken circumstances, equivalent to 359,000 people. The poverty proportion of the couples with no children family type was 7% with 211,000 people while that of both singled aged person and aged couples family categories was 10%, equivalent to 102,000 people collectively.
A point worth mentioning is that the percentage of penniless people who came from the couples with children was merely 11% while accounting for virtually one half of the Australian impoverished. (154 words)
